SFM Select 5 feat. SwarJi

SJ: "Hey my name is Saish aka SwarJi from Los Angeles. I have been a radio DJ/selector for over 8 years running the former music blog/ now strictly radio show called That’s Deck. My newer radio show concept here on SutroFM is called “Ethno Junction” exploring the esoteric, experimental, and ethno facing sounds around the globe. Below are my TOP 5 tracks I have played throughout my recent shows here on SutroFM. Catch all the archives here :). Enjoy!"

1. Harmonious Thelonious - Rivera (Tolouse Low Trax Remix) [Italic, 2019]

Embedded content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25N6Rksspjs SJ: Harmonius Thelonius is probably one of my favorite producers at the moment. With records dating back to 2008 he’s been consistently melding dense african rhythmic patterns with otherworldy electronic textures. He put out an EP this past April called “International Dance Record 2”, and I can’t get enough of it. Especially this Tolouse Low Trax remix of “Rivera”, such a damn weird warping yet addictingly hypnotic melody. This came right after another fav Thelonius release from earlier April, out on Singapore label Midnight Shift, called Kabriman. Highly recommend all of this guy’s material, he just released a lovely EP last week on Trilogy Tapes !!

2. Soundpieces & Ache Meyi - Alina’s Calypso [Manana/Records, 2017]

Embedded content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-_kZnAem7A SJ: "Came across this one earlier this year via the ever reliable Worldwide FM premieres. At first listen I was immediately hooked and looped the track about 10 times continuously thereafter. Probably 100 times since. Its charming, therapeutic and eclectic. The afro-cuban dubbed out nature of this track just triggers the body and spirit to dance every time. UK’s Sound Species and Santiago de Cuba’s, Ache Meyi make such a brilliant combo."

3. May East - Maraka [Music From Memory, 2019]

Embedded content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGjRRi6rHJs SJ: "Music from Memory continues to amaze me with their compilations and reissues. The most recent one, “Outro Tempo II” meets all those expectations and then some. Compiled by John Gomez, the 20 track various artist compilation soundtracks the forgotten hidden gems of the 1980s-90s Brazillian underground. This first track on the release is the perfect opener to grab all your attention and emotion leaving you wanting more of this sound journey."

4. Capablanca - Lap Dance (Guy Debords disco Punish mix) [Discos Capablanca, 2017]

Embedded content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B378XyGatk SJ: "Raw, crunchy, unapologetic sounds from one of my fav labels out there Discos Capablanca. Everything this label releases to date is absolute FIRE. Here’s an older one that I still can’t get enough of. There were several remixes released for this Capablanca heater, but this disco punisher from Guy Debord happens to be my favorite."

5. Sun C - Kaad 4 [Nyege Nyege Tapes, 2018]

Embedded content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWHxJxE62n0 SJ: "Forward-thinking tribal sounds from Mbale, Uganda. I have been following Nyege Nyege Tapes for several years now and have thoroughly been excited, proud, and intrigued by all the sounds coming from this label. My father was born in Kampala, Uganda so I have always had an instinct connection to the sounds and rhythms from this region. Sun C pairs the spiritual essence of these ancient tribal rhythms and speeds them up for the club dancefloors. It’s incredibly overwhelming but intensely gratifying in every way shape and form. This whole ‘Kadodi’ release hits hard."
